Why Bovey Tracey needed a straight forward Exhibitor led website

If I can’t get every exhibitor’s photos and details online quickly, people won’t know who’s coming.” Corin, the festival’s co-organiser, hit that wall after last year’s manual upload marathon.

The team wanted a single, self-service hub that kept excitement brewing long before Fore Street fills with stalls.

Audience & discover-ability insights: Putting “What’s On in Bovey Tracey” on the Map

Even without direct competitors, we still studied how visitors look for local days out:

  • Place-plus-event searches: phrases such as “Bovey Tracey food festival” and “Devon craft fair this weekend”.
  • Exhibitor name look-ups: fans Googling a favourite brewery or jeweller and landing on the festival instead.
  • Mobile “near me” intent: people already in Dartmoor searching “street food near me” on the day.

These insights shaped our menu labels and on-page copy, helping search engines and humans instantly grasp the festival’s mix of food, drink and crafts.

Build & launch: From blank page to live Bovey Tracey Festival in 6 Weeks (Under £2.5k)

  • Kick-off workshop (May 2025): sitemap, tone and image wish-list agreed in one meeting.
  • Content intake: exhibitors completed a quick form; we polished descriptions and resized photos.
  • Category templates: Food & Drink, Craft and Producers pages auto-pull profiles using a custom import.
  • Countdown & hero section: live timer to 6 September keeps excitement high.
  • Accessibility sweeps: alt-text, colour-contrast and keyboard-only checks baked in.
  • Soft launch & QA: private link shared with team for final thumbs-up.

Total time: 6 weeks (Mid May start → July launch)Cost: comfortably under £2.5k, including the first year’s hosting and SSL.

Exhibitor FAQs answered

  • How do I get listed? Send simple information to the organisation to compile into a spreadsheet we handle the rest.
  • Can I update my blurb later? Yes, email the committee and changes go live within 24 hours.
  • Do I need professional photos? No. Smartphone shots are fine; we optimise size and lighting.
  • Will Google find my stall? Each profile creates its own indexable page, boosting visibility when fans search your brand name.

Pre-launch checklist: Speed, inclusivity & peace of mind

  • Sub-2-second load on 4G thanks to compressed imagery.
  • WCAG-friendly fonts, headings and ARIA labels.
  • SSL certificate & nightly backups via managed hosting.
  • Schema markup for event date, location and exhibitor list to enrich search results.

Future-proofing the Festival site: After care without the contract

Although there’s no ongoing Care Plan today, we’ve built hooks for:

  • Self-serve profile edits via a secure exhibitor login.
  • Annual rollover - duplicate the entire framework for 2026 in two clicks.
  • Sponsor spotlight blocks to unlock new revenue.
  • Visitor photo gallery fed directly from an Instagram hashtag.
  • On-the-day live map connectable to QR-code posters at the gate.

When the committee is ready, these add-ons can be activated in less than a month.

Schema is not SEO snake oil, but is it actually worth doing

Structured data (schema markup) occupies an awkward middle ground in SEO. It is often oversold as a ranking booster, then dismissed entirely when no uplift appears. Neither position survives contact with the evidence. Schema does not directly improve rankings. It also does not do 'nothing'. Its value lies in a narrow but increasingly relevant set of use cases, especially as search interfaces shift toward summarisation, extraction, and entity-based retrieval.

What changed in Local Search in 2025 and what Devon Businesses should do about it

Added: 29 December 2025

2025 fundamentally changed how customers find local businesses. Google's AI Overviews now appear in a majority of commercial searches, traditional organic listings have moved down the page, and well over half of searches now end without a click. For Devon businesses, the old playbook of 'rank higher, get more traffic' no longer reflects how search actually works. Here's what happened, what it means, and what to do next.
